Pause Pledge
What is the Pause Pledge?
The pledge pause isn’t about changing what you believe. It’s about how we engage with one another, especially when we disagree.
Disagreement is part of democracy. How we speak, what we share, and what we choose not to amplify changes the culture we live in.
The Pledge Pause is a simple commitment to act with intention, speak with care, and engage one another with respect – both on and offline.
Why Pause
We live in a time when emotionally charged messaging spreads faster than reflection.
When we react without pausing…
- Fear and outrage travel faster than understanding
- People are reduced to labels
- Conversations harden instead of opening
- Families, friendships, and communities are strained
- Trust in one another and in democracy erodes
Pausing creates space for something better.
The Pledge
I pledge to:
- Pause before reacting.
- Approach disagreement with curiosity rather than judgment.
- Listen to understand before seeking to be understood.
- Treat others with dignity and respect, even when we disagree.
- Value relationships over being right.
- Be part of creating a culture of connection, one conversation at a time.
If this reflects how you want to show up - online, offline, and in your community - we invite you to join us in taking the pledge.
You don’t have to agree with everyone.
You don’t have to disengage.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Just be willing to pause. Choose respect.
